Seminar F1008A examines the Florida Building Code and how its requirements relate to basic life safety concepts utilized for designing safe buildings. This seminar deals mainly with the concepts of designing buildings to protect building occupants from fire and products of combustion, as well as the concepts behind providing a means for them to escape such fires. The relationships between, occupancy classifications and how occupants behave in different occupancies will be explored. Seminar F1008A is based on the Florida Building Code (FBC). This seminar complements seminar F508A – Heights and Areas and the Florida Building Code. Subjects discussed include:

l Occupancy separation
l Automatic sprinkler protection
l Egress from buildings
l Egress to safe areas of buildings
l Protection of egress systems
l Accessible egress
